A Dallas police sergeant is recovering from injuries this morning after his cruiser collided with an 18-wheeler at the intersection of Lancaster Road and the Interstate 20 westbound service road in South Oak Cliff.

The sergeant had been responding to a report that a citizen had apprehended a person breaking into a vehicle, police said. The police car had a flashing red light and the truck had a flashing yellow when the two vehicles collided at about 5:15 a.m.

The Dallas Morning News reported, The officer’s car slid under the truck, crushing the front of the cruiser. The sergeant was trapped for about 40 minutes and was responsive, police said.

Dallas police said they will investigate the cause of the accident.

The sergeant told police this morning that he tried to stop when he saw the truck but could not prevent the collision. Police said slick roads may have contributed to the accident.

Lancaster Road was shut down in both directions this morning. But the road began to reopen by about 8 a.m. The westbound ramp from I-20 to Lancaster Road was also closed this morning but it did not appear to affect traffic on I-20, according to TrafficPulse.com.

Have youn done any update on the investigation yet? Did the office have use of over head emergency lights on to warn traffice of his approaching? Was there any approval by city policy like speed? What type of emergency condition was it? Why didn't the truck driver yield to the squad car in responce to the call?
Why wasn't the truck driver not being focus of his surroundings when driving?
