Head-on collision caused by drunk driver kills two, injures three
Two people were killed in a head-on collision which took place on U.S. 59 early Monday, June 1st. An additional three people, including two children, were injured. The three were taken to Houston and Dallas hospital in poor condition.
The accident occurred when a pickup truck driven by 30-year-old Vicente Gonzales struck the car head-on. Gonzales was driving southbound in a northbound lane. At the time of the accident, Gonzales had a blood alcohol level of .228, which is nearly three times the legal limit. Gonzales is expected to be charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The two deceased victims of the car accident are 29-year-old Crystal Thomas and 48-year-old Willie Lacy. Both died at the scene of the accident. Thomas and Lacy are common law spouses.
A 7-year-old, Joveair Thomas, is being treated for internal injuries and injuries to his chest. Four-year-old Christopher Gross suffered a broken neck and internal injuries.
Gonzales broke both of his legs and suffered internal injuries. He is listed in critical condition at a Houston hospital.
