Lone Star Motorcycle Rally Marred by Deaths
Nearly 500,000 motorcycle riders converged on Galveston this weekend in what was intended to be a celebration of motorcycling in America. The event had tragic consequences for three riders, however. In each of these wrecks, none of the reckless riders wore a helmet—and all of them paid the highest price for their love of this dangerous and potentially lethal pastime.
The deadly accidents that occurred at the Lone Star Motorcycle Rally are indicative of the hundreds of accidents that happen across Texas every year. One driver lost control of his bike, struck a school bus, and perished when he became trapped under the bus’s undercarriage. Two others were killed when their motorcycle, travelling at an excessive rate of speed, struck a curb and flung them from their bike. Another man was placed in critical condition at a nearby hospital after he ran a stop sign, causing a serious accident.
