18-Wheeler Accident Stops Traffic, Spills Potentially Lethal Fuel

Traffic yesterday afternoon came to a dead stop on Interstate 10 near Houston when an 18-wheeler unexpectedly crashed into a concrete divider, dumping gallons of fuel on both sides of the heavily traveled highway. Although the precise cause of the accident is unclear, it is certain that high winds and wet driving conditions contributed to the wreck. Early speculation also suggests that poor driving on the part of the trucker may have contributed to the dangerous accident that caused severe delays – and threatened hundreds of drivers with the potential of severe property damage and personal injury.

In my capacity as an attorney, I see a lot of personal injury and wrongful death cases. All are tragic. However, I’ve noticed that 18-wheeler accidents are frequently the most dramatic, painful, costly, and life-changing for victims and their families.

The fact is that 18-wheelers are enormous – and usually more powerful than commuters realize. They weigh 80,000. At highway speeds, they take more than 100 yards to stop. Given their size and shape, they are particularly poor and dodging highway obstacles, like tire shreds and slow-moving cars. And the drivers of big rigs are often overworked and underpaid, resulting in heightened risks and dangerous conditions.

18-wheeler accidents present unique – and uniquely challenging – legal situations. You and your family deserve justice. Unfortunately, most firms aren’t prepared to handle the complex litigation that 18-wheeler accidents regularly generate. Fortunately, the professionals at Fears | Nachawati are ready to defend your interests and protect your rights. Find out how we can help you by contacting us today.
