18-Wheeler Accident Injures Police Officers

Alcohol played a central role in the injury of two police officers late last week when an 18-wheeler slammed into their vehicles. Despite the fact that it was clear that the officers were addressing a traffic problem, the big rig driver failed to use caution as he approached. While his belated evasive action succeeded in avoiding a direct hit, it wasn’t enough to prevent sending the officers to Parkland Hospital with serious injuries.

A post-accident sobriety test revealed that the big rig driver had consumed alcohol prior to driving his commercial vehicle. Although the driver blood alcohol content was below the legal standard for inebriation, its mere presence was a violation of Texas law.

Legal Commentary – Majed Nachawati – Author

18-wheeler accidents are unlike passenger car accidents. Factually, big rig accidents usually cause considerably more property damage, personal injury, and death than car wrecks. Legally, as last Friday’s accident suggests, they also often include distinct issues of law which are unique to the business of commercial transportation.

For both reasons, it’s important to hire an 18-wheeler accident specialist if you or a loved one have been involved in an accident with a big rig. Fortunately, the experienced, expert attorneys at Fears | Nachawati are prepared to deal with the unique factual and legal challenges associated with your wreck. Don’t hire a novice to do an expert’s job! Contact our dedicated 18-wheeler accident attorneys today.
