18-Wheeler Slams into DART Bus, Injuring Eleven People
The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) authority didn’t mean to put its passengers in harm’s way, but that’s exactly what happened earlier this week when an 18-wheeler rammed into the back of stopped DART bus. In the blink of an eye, the lane-changing 18-wheeler steered into the side of the bus, injuring ten passengers and the driver.
In this unfortunate situation, DART and the bus driver are no more to blame than any other driver on the road. The reality is that roads throughout Texas – even quasi-residential roads like Loop 12 and Buckner Boulevard, the sight of the accident – are made considerably more dangerous by the presence of overweight 18-wheelers and their undertrained drivers.

Weighing as much as 80,000 pounds, 18-wheelers are bigger than everything else on the road, including DART buses. Just how much bigger are big rigs in comparison to passenger cars? Incredibly, the average, fully loaded 18-wheeler weighs forty times the weight of the average, fully loaded passenger sedan. It doesn’t take a degree in physics to know that when an object the size and mass of a big rig strikes anything else on the road, the resulting accident is likely to include severe property damage and personal injury.
Not surprisingly, 18-wheelers are responsible for an incomprehensible amount of loss, pain, and suffering every year. For instance, a few years ago 74,000 Americans were injured and more than 3,000 people lost their lives as a result of 18-wheeler accidents.
Being involved in an 18-wheeler accident is usually painful and costly for victims and their families. These accidents are typically one of the most serious unanticipated events in a person’s life. If you’re recovering from an 18-wheeler accident, you shouldn’t take chances with your representation or your response.
