Donald Huff, Three-Time DWI Offender, Found Guilty of Murder in Bexar County

On Wednesday, prosecutors successfully convicted Donald Huff, 54, guilty of murder for a drunken driving crash that killed his fiancée, Arlene Harding-Watts. The accident occurred almost four years ago, on August 6, 2009, when Huff and Harding-Watts were driving a motorcycle down Nacogdoches Road. Huff had a blood alcohol of .17, more than twice the legal limit. During his trial, Huff’s attorneys were adamant that Harding-Watts had been driving, but immediately after the crash, Huff had told first responders that he had been driving. Harding-Watts suffered multiple injuries, including blunt-force injuries to her abdomen and head, a broken neck, and an almost entirely severed foot. Huff was left unscathed. Given that he had been convicted of a DWI twice before, prosecutors were able to pursue murder charges for this third offense. His sentencing is set for July 31, where Huff will face up to life in prison.
