Rick Sauvageau sustained a broken wrist and injured shoulder when an elderly man ran into the group of bicyclists he was riding with. Sherman Clark, 74, was driving a Chevrolet pickup on Lake Forest Drive when he approached a group of 10 cyclists who were riding single-file. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Sherman slowed down near the riders and yelled at them to get off of the road. Sherman then proceeded to pull in front of them, and abruptly slammed on his brakes, causing Rick Sauvageau to hit the back of Sherman’s vehicle. Sherman argued briefly with several other riders, before leaving the scene of the accident and running over another bicycle. Currently, Mr. Sauvageao is the only cyclist with reported injuries. Below is a map depicting where the wreck occurred:
In this particular accident, two corresponding legal matters arise: a possible civil case and a possible criminal case. Criminal charges will likely be brought against Sherman Clark once the case is turned over to the district attorney
From a civil standpoint, our firm has represented numerous individuals and families who are the victims of car accidents and bicycle accidents. Mr. Sauvageau should most certainly consult with an attorney to file a personal injury claim against Mr. Clark. Pursuing a civil claim against Mr. Clark for the intentional injuries and damages he caused Mr. Sauvageau will give him the compensation needed to cover medical bill expenses for his injuries; so that he is not burdened to pay out-of-pocket.
