Elizabeth Macey killed by Derrick Paul Jackson in a drunk driving accident on Thursday November 28, 2013 on Oakland Boulevard near Pyron Avenue in Fort Worth
Elizabeth Macey, age 56, was killed on Thanksgiving night around 7 p.m. in a drunk driving accident. A 1999 Buick, driven by Derrick Paul Jackson, age 20, hit Ms. Macey in her 1999 Nissan Sentra as he was driving northbound on Oakland Boulevard near Pyron Avenue just East of Forth Worth. He crossed the center line and hit her head-on. Ms. Macey was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital but sadly died from her injuries. Following the incident Mr. Jackson was arrested and also charged with intoxication manslaughter. Below is a map of the approximate location of the accident:
As unfortunate as drunk driving accidents are, they are quite common. MADD reports that a person is injured from a drunk driving crash almost every 90 seconds. MADD also reports that the rate of drunk driving is highest for those in their early 20s. In this situation there is a potential civil case. The lamentable death of Ms. Macey will most likely follow with pain and suffering of the victim’s family, possible lost wages from family members, and costly funeral expenses. From a civil standpoint, our firm has represented numerous individuals and families who are affected by drunken driving accidents. These families should consult with an attorney to file claims against the driver at-fault. Although no monetary amount can compensate for a lost loved one, a successful civil claim against the at-fault driver will enable the victim’s family to cover any medical or final expenses, leaving them more time to focus on the grieving process during this trying time.
