A woman and three children were injured in a west Dallas wreck.  The accident occurred on Walton Walker Boulevard near the intersection of Singleton Boulevard.  Authorities say that the car that the woman and children were in lost control, and was hit by a large pickup truck.  The pickup truck driver was not injured.  Two of the children were ejected from the car.  All three children and the woman were taken to area hospitals for treatment.  Authorities are continuing to investigate what caused the woman to lose control of her car.

A 14 year old girl from Arlington was killed in an SUV rollover accident.  Authorities say that the girl's boyfriend, also 14, had been drinking and was driving the family SUV when he crashed through a guard rail and rolled down an embankment.  The boy took the SUV without his parents' permission.  The girl died after she was ejected from the vehicle.  The driver and another teen were injured in the wreck.

Three children were injured in a single-car crash involving an SUV in Dallas.  Authorities say that the SUV hit a light pole Thursday night.  The force of the accident caused one child, a five year old girl, to be ejected from the vehicle.  Three other children were also in the vehicle, and two of them were injured.  The driver, who is believed to be the father of at least one of the children, fled the scene and is now sought by authorities.  Two of the injured children were taken to an area hospital for treatment for head injuries.

A car wreck in Fort Worth Sunday injured one and killed another.  Daniel Heinrich, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 2200 block of Jacksboro Highway.  Debra Barber, 59, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.  One man, Manuel Valles, is being held in the Mansfield Jail, and is facing intoxication manslaughter charges for his role in this deadly crash.  Authorities are continuing to investigate this fatal crash.

Two people were injured in a three-car pileup this afternoon.  The accidents occurred on the Woodall Rogers Freeway in downtown Dallas.  Authorities say that the three cars were traveling westbound towards the exit to I-75, North Central Expressway, when the middle car hit the car in front.  The two front cars stopped abruptly, at which time the third car ran into them.  The injured individuals were riding in the middle car and were taken to area hospitals by ambulance in stable condition.

Small white crosses along the side of the road throughout Texas…each one represents a person killed by a drunk driver in a car accident. The construction of these memorials, which are typically put in place by the victim’s family, are governed by the Texas Department of Transportation.

Two main requirements must be met in order for a family to erect a roadside memorial in Texas. First, the family must present the Department with an official document which proves that alcohol or drugs were factors in the car accident. Second, the accident must have occurred somewhere on the state highway system. Note that a driver who was killed in an accident while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is not eligible for a memorial.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving support the roadside memorials. MADD spokeswoman Karen Wrighthouse says that the crosses serve as a visual reminder to the traveling public that drunk driving is a serious issue.
