One-vehicle accident in Plano, Texas, kills two

Two men are dead after a one-vehicle accident in Plano, Texas, on October 10th.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, Plano police officers responded to a report of a car accident. The accident took place in the 2500 block of Preston Rd.

Early investigations indicate that the car, driven by 20-year-old Perfecto Sarinana-Ayala, was headed northbound in the right turn lane. It appears that Sarinana-Ayala failed to change lanes, causing him to strike a concrete block that secures a traffic light pole.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found both the driver and the right front passenger dead.

The accident remains under investigation, but police believe that both alcohol and speed were contributing factors.

Pending notification of kin, the identification of the passenger has not yet been released.

Five common causes of car accidents

Car accidents can occur any time, anywhere. Even the most cautious of drivers can become involved in a car accident. You can’t control the behavior of other drivers, and it is typically the choices a driver makes that lead to car accidents.

To help protect yourself and your loved ones from being involved in a Texas car accident, it helps to be aware of the most common causes of motor vehicle collisions. In Texas, and all around the country, there are five factors that are frequently at play in a car accident:

  1. Speeding: When you’re speeding, you have less time to react in order to avoid a potential accident. Also, the faster you are driving, the more braking distance you need, reducing your chances of stopping in time to prevent a collision.
  2. Aggression: Examples of aggressive driving include ignoring traffic signals, failing to yield to the right of way, tailgating and excessively changing lanes.
  3. Distractions: Whenever you’re behind the wheel, your full attention should be devoted to the road and the traffic around you. Distractions such as talking on the cell phone or to passengers, eating or changing radio stations contribute to as many as 50% of all car accidents.
  4. Fatigue: Factors such as lack of sleep and the side-effects of medication can cause driver fatigue – which accounts for almost 100,000 car accident deaths every year.
  5. Driving under the influence of alcohol: Intoxication impairs your judgment and slows your reaction time, dramatically increasing your chances of causing a car accident. It can also lead to driver fatigue.

Two-car accident kills mother and son, injures infant daughter

A Friday morning car accident ended in the death of a Denton county woman and her 4-year-old son. The accident took place in Frisco at the intersection of U.S. Highway 380 and Dallas Parkway.

The woman was 30-year-old Kavari Gael Gray. Her son was named Klein. A third victim, Gray’s infant daughter, is in critical condition and is being treated at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.

Gray was traveling east on Highway 380 on Friday morning at around 9am. The accident was caused by Gray turning left in front of a Dodge pickup truck headed west on 380. Jose Hernandez, the driver of the truck, was not injured.

Gray’s Honda SUV flipped over a trailer being pulled behind Hernandez’s truck, eventually landing on its wheels in a nearby ditch. The truck, which was hauling Bobcat heavy equipment, wrapped around a light pole. The equipment fell from the trailer onto the ground upon impact with the pole.

Investigators have determined that the traffic headed in both directions had a green light at the time of the accident. Gray failed to yield to the right of way when she turned out in front of the oncoming truck.
