According to a study involving nearly 200,000 Actos (pioglitazone) patients, people who were prescribed pioglitazone therapy for longer than 12 months had a forty percent increase in the risk for bladder cancer. Charlie Sheen’s $100 million lawsuit against the Warner Bros. and “Two and Half Men” executive producer Chuck Lorre is headed to arbitration, courtesy of a Los Angeles Superior Court judge. Fears | Nachawati has sued Apple and a number of its iPhone application makers for various privacy violations.  The firm and its client allege that Apple and the application makers helped advertisers secretly create detailed profiles of iPhone users without their knowledge or consent.  Apple and the applications makers allegedly mined data from the consumers' use of their iPhones, including browing habits, location, and shopping habits.  This invasion is possible because Apple assigns a unique identifier to each iPhone, which allows advertisers to correlate data to specific individual end users.

Fears | Nachawati has filed suit on behalf of its clients in California alleging that its clients privacy rights were violated by Apple, Inc.  Apple, along with the makers of popular applications such as Textplus4, Paper Toss, Weather Channel, Dictionary.com, Talking Tom Cat and Pumpkin Maker, has been accused of passing personal user information to third parties without the knowledge or consent of its customers.  The Wall Street Journal had previously reported that smartphone applications such as those implicated in the firm's lawsuit shared personal data "widely and regularly" without agreement of consumers.

The City of Fort Worth has offered the family of a man killed by police a record-setting settlement of $2 million.  The victim was killed by a Taser during a confrontation with police last year. 

Assistant City Attorney Gerald Pruitt says that this is the largest settlement Fort Worth has ever offered in any case involving death or injury. 

The victim, Michael Patrick Jacobs, Jr., died after he was shocked with a Taser for a total of 54 seconds.  Mr. Jacobs had a history of mental illness, and the police became involved after his family called for help because he was off of his medication and behaving aggressively.  Mr. Jacobs was shocked twice, first for 49 seconds and then for an additional 5 seconds.  The Tarrant County medical examiner's office declared that the victim's death was a homicide, but a grand jury declined to indict the officers who were involved in the killing.
