What is a personal injury?

“Personal injury” is a legal term that describes an injury to a victim’s body, mind or emotions. Personal injuries are distinct and separate from injuries to property. A personal injury can be either physical or psychological. Both types may be included in a Texas personal injury lawsuit.

Here is an example of a personal injury: John Smith is in a bad car accident. He sustains injuries including whiplash (physical) and emotional trauma (psychological). He also suffered an injury to his property when he car was damaged. John can seek compensation for all three of these injuries when he brings a personal injury lawsuit.

The term personal injury is generally associated with harm suffered by a person who is injured in an accident caused by another person’s negligent actions.  To learn more about negligence click here.

Teenage siblings killed in two-car accident

A brother and sister, both teenagers, were killed when their pickup truck collided with another car in Grand Prairie, Texas. The impact caused the truck to flip, and it landed on its roof.  The two victims are 17-year-old Travaris Davis-Pitts and 15-year-old Ashley Davis-Pitts. Travaris was driving the car when he rear-ended a Ford Focus. The accident occurred late on Sunday night, May 31st.

Upon impact, both the truck and the Focus careened out of control. The truck was launched into a creek bed, when it then crashed onto the bank and eventually landed upside down. Both teens, who were wearing seat belts, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Focus, which also landed on its roof, was Crystal Rayfield, 21, of Arlington, Texas. Rayfield suffered only minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation, though police believe speed was the primary factor contributing to the crash.
