Four people were injured in a pileup on westbound I-30 in Dallas that closed the highway for several hours.  A pickup truck traveling on the westbound service road crashed through a guard rail and entered the freeway, causing a collision with a tractor-trailer rig.  The big rig was then hit by a DART paratransit bus which was unable to stop in time.  The pickup truck driver was seriously injured and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.  Two of the individuals in the DART paratransit bus and the driver of the tractor-trailer were also injured in the incident.

$62.7 million dollar settlement in 18-wheeler crash that killed four Texans

A $62.7 million dollar settlement has been reached in an 18-wheeler crash on the Oklahoma turnpike that killed ten people, including four Texans.  The accident occurred when a tractor trailer operated by Associated Wholesale Grocers Inc. slammed into a line of stopped cars.  Victims and survivors of the crash sued the company for failure to properly train and supervise its driver.  They hope that this large settlement will work a wake-up call for the trucking industry and prevent similar tragedies in the future.

18-wheeler crash kills Frisco mom and two kids, injures more

A Frisco woman and her two young children were killed, while her husband and the children's father was critically injured, in a wreck on I-20 in Kaufman County this weekend.  The family was traveling in heavy traffic in an SUV when an 18-wheeler struck them from behind.  The force of the impact was enough to push their SUV into another car, which in turn was pushed into another 18-wheeler and into the highway median.  The SUV then caught fire.  The driver of the first truck was injured, as were the driver and passengers in the second car.

Sadly, car accidents involving 18-wheelers all too often end in fatalities. Tractor trailers are simply bigger and more powerful than the average motor vehicle, which leads to serious injuries and sometimes even death for the person or persons riding in the car.

Car Hits 18-Wheeler in Grapevine

As reported by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, three men died in a crash early Sunday when a car hit a parked 18-wheeler's trailer and burst into flames, police said.

The men were traveling north in a 2002 Subaru Impreza about 3:10 a.m. when the wreck occurred in the 2100 block of Grayson Drive, police spokeswoman Sgt. Kim Smith said. The Impreza was quickly engulfed in flames, she said.

"The first officer was on scene within a couple minutes," Smith said. "He broke the driver's window to try and get them out, but the car was so badly on fire."

All three men died at the scene. They were Justin Cartwright, 27, of Euless; Corey Pratt, 28, of Bedford; and Aubrey Amado, whose age was not available, of Grapevine, Smith said.

The area near Texas 121 and Mustang Drive has several commercial and industrial properties.

The truck, which was not occupied at the time of the crash, was parked legally, and no criminal charges are anticipated, Smith said.

"We're just getting in touch with the families and making sure they have any help they need," Smith said.
