Austin Drivers Worry As Higher Speed Limits Hit I-35

The Texas Department of Transportation announced this week which roads will receive a speed limit increase to 75 miles per hour. At the top of the list is Interstate 35 north of Austin. I-35 is already one of Texas’s most accident-prone roads. Now, the heavily travelled highway will become even more dangerous, as some experts argue that higher speed limits lead to more reckless driving and, as a result, more accidents.

The increased speed limit has Austin-area drivers worried. The Austin area section of I-35 has long been considered one of the most dangerous in Texas. Between January 1991 and December 2000, for instance, 277 people died in automobile accidents on stretches of I-35 in Travis, Hays, and Williamson counties. By comparison, there were just 199 driver fatalities on even busier stretches of I-35 in Dallas County during that time.

Oak Cliff motorcycle crash kills 2

A motorcyclist struck a pedestrian in southeast Oak Cliff recently.  The pedestrian, Paul Bellard of Dallas, was attempting to cross the 6200 block of Bonnie View Road about 10 p.m. Tuesday night.  The motorcyclist, Lashon Hudson of Dallas, was traveling southbound on that road when he hit Bellard with his Suzuki.  Investigators believe that Hudson was doing a wheelie at the time of the accident, and that his front wheel was off the ground.  The impact of the crash sent Hudson off of his bike, and threw Bellard into the northbound lanes of Bonnie View Road.

Husdon was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, while Bellard was taken to Methodist Charlton Medical Center.  Both men died.

At Least 18 Killed in Train Collision in Los Angeles, California

Recently, the AP reported a tragic train wreck that killed 18 people. According to early reports, a commuter train hit a freight train head on. It is often difficult to tell early on what the cause of the collision may have been. However, one of the most important things to keep in mind is the importance of an early, thorough investigation into the crash. Inevitably, lawsuits will be filed in response to this deadly wreck. Any time suit is filed, liability is often a hotly contested issue. If the evidentiary state of the crash site is left in tact, it tends to shed more light on what actually happened. If you or a loved one has been involved in a train wreck or train collision, our lawyers would be happy to provide you with a consultation and explain the legal nuances involved in the aftermath of a deadly train crash. Fears | Nachawati Law Firm, Toll Free Phone 1 (866) 705-7584.
